Jade meets three construction workers, most notably among them is a man she just refers to as Shooting Glasses. In the traditional American family, it is all about the nuclear family’s responsibility, but Jade’s nuclear family is quite dysfunctional. One of the book’s main themes is what role a community should play in the upbringing of children. Kimmy works in town at the dollar store and you’ll get more of a backstory on her in book 2 of the trilogy. Jade has a mom, Kimmy, who has moved out of their home, so Jade lives with her dad. Essentially much of the plot of the book revolves around Jade as an outsider in the town of Proofrock and she comes from a broken family. Tab is best friends with Rexall, the school janitor who spies on girls with hidden cameras. We are then introduced to Jade, our main character, who has a troubled home life and an abusive father, Tab. These are the classic pawns that set up the trope of a standard slasher film to alert the audience that the bodies will start piling up. One of them turns up dead in Indian Lake and the other one is not found. The book opens with the deaths of two Dutch students who are backpacking across America. >!My Heart is a Chainsaw, Plot Summary Pt.
